What it does, in plain terms.
What is a construction take-off?
A take-off is the list of everything a job needs, measured out of the drawings or the specification: so many square metres of blockwork, so many metres of trench, so many wall ties. It is what you price a job from, and it is the part that takes an evening by hand.
Can Foundation read a drawing?
Yes. Attach a plan or a photo of one, tell us the scale, and confirm a dimension or two you have read off it yourself. Anything measured off the drawing is marked so you can check those lines first. If there is no scale on it, we say what we cannot determine rather than guessing.
Is this a bill of quantities?
It is a builder’s take-off rather than a formal bill of quantities. It follows the same conventions, grouped by trade with quantities, units and the arithmetic shown, and it carries its assumptions and exclusions with it. What it is not is a measured survey, and it says so on every copy.
Where do the prices come from?
Your own price list first, then your own history: what you paid on past dockets, and what a merchant quoted you on an earlier job, with their name and the date on it. If neither knows, the line stays blank and you either type a price or pick a merchant to ask. We never put a public estimate on a line, and the model is never asked for a price.
Does it send requests to builders providers?
Yes. Split the measured job across the merchants who cover each trade, or send the lot to one. They get a sheet with your quantities, your refs and blank rate columns, and Foundation chases whoever has gone quiet. Their prices come back to your own inbox, and you carry them into the quote.
What does Foundation cost?
